Democrats are Fighting for Renters

It’s hard for renters to get a fair shake in this tight housing market, especially since Idaho’s laws favor the landlord.

We are fighting for basic rights for renters, including:

  • Preventing the collection of sky-high rental application fees when a landlord does not even have a unit available
  • Protecting renters from unreasonable or surprise fees once you move in
  • Making sure the landlord can only take away your security deposit for actual damages

Many of Idaho’s Republican politicians have sided with the landlords’ lobbyists to oppose these measures, but we’ll keep fighting.

We’re also working to make rent more affordable. This year, Idaho Democrats were responsible for the passage of Idaho’s first-ever bill to create more affordable rental units. A majority of Republican representatives voted against this legislation.

Renters can have their voice heard by voting on Tuesday, November 8th from 8am to 8pm.

Register at the polls with a photo ID and proof you have been at your address for at least 30 days.
